Richard A. Eichler
Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Rich Eichler joined Hart Energy (formerly Hart Publications, Inc.), a global energy information company, in 1985. He has held various leadership positions within the company, including publisher of its flagship magazine, Oil and Gas Investor. Serving as president since 1999, Eichler was responsible for the successful management buyout of Hart Energy from VS&A Communications Partners II, L.P./Chemical Week Associates in 2004, and he was named CEO at that time. Today he oversees strategic direction for Hart Energy's portfolio of publishing products, events, consulting and research initiatives worldwide.
Eichler is the current Chairman of the Board of the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, serving over 50,000 youth in the greater Houston area. He was also chairman of the of the nation’s largest celebration commemorating scouting’s 100th anniversary in 2010 and he was also chairman of the 2014 Centennial celebration activities for the Sam Houston Area Council.
He is actively involved in several military support organizations including the Folds of Honor Foundation, the Boot Campaign and Lone Survivor Foundation. Eichler was a past member of the board of directors of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), the Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States (IPAMS), the Energy Cup Foundation, the Northwest Houston Chapter of the American Heart Association, and the Petroleum Club of Houston. He was named a finalist in the 2012 Gulf Coast Region Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
President and Chief Operating Officer
Kevin Higgins joined Hart Energy in 2004 as chief financial officer. He held that position for seven years until he was promoted to president and chief operating officer in 2011. Previously, he had served as chief financial officer for Chemical Week Associates since 1992. Higgins sits on the Hart Energy board of directors and is responsible for and oversees all aspects of the publishing, digital, research, GIS, financial, IT, and human resource operations of the company. He graduated from Hofstra University in 1984, obtained his CPA certificate in 1986 and spent eight years in public accounting before beginning his career in information services.
Chief Financial Officer
Chris Arndt joined Hart Energy as CFO in 2016. His diverse operational finance and strategy experience, combined with his knowledge of data and digital media led him to this new role.
Prior to joining Hart Energy, Arndt was the vice president of finance for Cox Automotive, supporting strategic planning and mergers & acquisitions. He originally joined Cox as head of finance for Autotrader (a $1.2B media lead generation business in the automotive space). Prior to joining Autotrader, he was the CFO of Extremity Healthcare, Inc. a private medical network of clinics, MRI, Pathology and Surgical facilities. Arndt also served as CFO and COO of two One Equity Partners funded businesses in the online lead generation and consumer medical procedure financing spaces.
Chris Arndt has an MBA in Finance from Georgia State University, and a BA from UNC, Charlotte. He served Financial Executives International, as Southeast Director (2009 through 2011), and Chapter President (2008 and 2013).
John E. Paisie
Executive Vice President for Stratas Advisors
John E. Paisie joined Hart Energy in 2013 as an executive vice president. Leading Stratas Advisors, he is responsible for the consulting business worldwide, increasing the scope of its research activities and expanding its base of retained services relationships. Paisie was a partner with PFC Energy, a strategic consultancy based in Washington, D.C., where he managed the downstream oil & gas and petrochemical group and led a global practice. He started his career with Sun Oil Company, he worked as a project manager for Saudi Aramco at Ras Tanura, and for more than eight years with IBM Consulting (formerly PriceWaterhouseCoopers, PwC Consulting) in Singapore, Beijing and London. As an expatriate, he lived in Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East and Europe, and worked extensively in Latin America. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the University of Toledo and his MBA from Purdue University
Mark E. Chiles
Chief Digital Officer & Senior Vice President of Digital Operations
Mark Chiles is the Senior Vice President of Digital Operations for Hart Energy. As Hart’s chief digital officer, Mark coordinates and leads key digital functions across the company's portfolio of world-class brands, while defining growth areas and entering new markets. He currently manages information technology, software engineering, audience development, digital business development, data intelligence and new product strategy. New e-commerce, online marketing, social media, transformative platforms and cutting edge technology are just some of the redefining media components Mark is embracing to continue Hart Energy’s leadership in providing oil and gas information. He has been with Hart Energy for eight years and is a key member of its leadership team. Chiles spent two years as Information Technology Manager for Excargo Services Inc. and five years as a Volunteer Firefighter for Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department. He has several Microsoft certifications and completed the technology certification program at Kingwood College. He is also a member of the Texas Young Professionals group and has received the Best Disaster Response Award from OpenDNS for restoring Hart Energy following Hurricane Ike.
Reinold (Rey) Tagle
Senior Vice President of Data Services
Joining the Company as vice president in September 2010, Rey Tagle is responsible for product development and business growth of Hart Energy’s GIS data services. Tagle has over 10 years of experience working in various aspects of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the energy industry. He is the founder and former CEO of Rextag Strategies, Hart Energy’s leading mapping and GIS data provider for the energy industry. He also has comprehensive experience in the development and implementation of new GIS data products and services as well as web development and publishing of maps and books. Tagle has a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology/archaeology and professional certifications in project management and business management from the University of California, San Diego.
Vice President - E&P
Over the past 25 years Russell Laas has held the titles of associate publisher, publisher, group publisher and now vice president for the E&P franchise. He is responsible for directing all aspects of the E&P suite of products which includes E&P magazine, directories, show dailies, newsletters, unconventional playbooks, operator field development reports and custom supplements. He also was part of the launch teams for two historic Hart Energy initiatives: the rollout of E&P magazine in 1999 and the development of the DUG conferences series. Laas joined Hart Energy in 1991 as the Company’s first employee in Houston. He started his oil and gas publishing career as an advertising sales manager with Resource Publications, with responsibility for several industry directories and Offshore Engineer magazine. He earned a degree in accounting from Texas A&M University before moving into the publishing industry
Vice President - Oil and Gas Investor
Shelley Lamb joined Hart Energy in December 2000. In 2013, she was named Vice President - Publishing. She continues to serve as the publisher of the company’s flagship brand, Oil and Gas Investor. For nearly a decade, she has been instrumental in overseeing the franchise which includes Oil and Gas Investor magazine, several newsletters, websites, single and multi-sponsored custom reports and three conferences. In addition, she was instrumental in the 2011 development and launch of Midstream Business, the successful magazine dedicated to the processing and transportation of hydrocarbons. She joined Hart Energy after a successful career in the newspaper business. Lamb earned her bachelor’s degree in advertising/marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA).
Vice President - Events
Barry Haest joined Hart Energy in 2010 as the Director of Events to lead the growing conference and exhibition business. Under his leadership Hart Energy has successfully launched eight new events in the United States and Australia. In 2013, the Trade Show News Network named DUG East and DUG Eagle Ford as two of the 25 fastest growing events in the country. Additionally, both conferences have ranked among the top 250 largest U.S. trade shows. Previous to joining Hart Energy, Haest held senior management positions in real estate development and software development. He also served as the Director of Global ventures for another business-to-business media and information company. Haest holds a degree in business and communications from Texas Tech University.
Responsible for creating editorial synergies across the Company’s product lines and media platforms, enhancing the profile of Hart Energy editors in the industry, and maintaining and improving the quality of content in all the Company’s products is Editorial Director Peggy Williams. She joined Hart Energy in 1992 and served for many years as senior exploration editor for Oil and Gas Investor. Williams is a certified petroleum geologist, and prior to joining Hart Energy spent 16 years in prospect generation and prospect evaluation. She earned her Master of Science degree in technical communication from the University of Colorado, a Master of Science degree in energy resources from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in geology from the University of Rhode Island. Williams holds memberships in many trade and professional organizations, including the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Vice President of Marketing
Greg Salerno joined Hart Energy as director of marketing in 2010 and helped launch its re-branding; he was promoted in January 2015. He has company-wide responsibility for branding and marketing processes and plays a key role in corporate marketing strategy. He is also an advisor to operations management for messaging, brand strategy and product development. He brings 30+ years’ oil and gas industry experience to bear, having carried communications, advertising and marketing responsibilities for Fortune 500 companies like Weatherford International and BJ Services (now Baker-Hughes). His award-winning advertising agency experience includes copywriting, strategy and creative direction for clients including Exxon Chemical, Conoco, Vetco-Gray, TEPPCO, Vista Chemical, 3M and others. A certified business communicator, he served as Houston chapter president for the Business Marketing Association (BMA) and as a national BMA director. He started his career as a reporter and editor in news media and trade publications after earning his Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism.
Vice President of Audience Development
Jim Browning joined Hart Energy in 2013 as the Director of Audience Development. He manages the subscription sales team, customer service representatives and internal database group. Hart Energy's BPA audit statements reflect how Browning has successfully built the paid and controlled audiences of Oil and Gas Investor, E&P and Midstream Business magazines to the highest quality in the business. Browning has established key partnerships with industry associations. He is a senior member of the BPA Audience Development Advisory Committee and an expert in circulation management. His experience developing audiences spans more than 25 years. Browning is a graduate of Philadelphia University.
